Attack them again and again (and also send marches to the resource) to get as many resources as possible. Forget the glory and won a difficult battle, destroying the enemy: it is an important resource and agriculture is the way to go!
9. Determine the route for your hero - there are three categories in which you can improve your hero talents (Warfare, Income, Progress) and each has a very large skill tree. This means that you will not be able to open up and max out every skill (at least not in the near future), so check out all the skill tree and decide who will be your main focus. Warfare seems like an obvious choice, I would say, because in the end it will all be about war and have a better bonus will help you get more wins.
